Singing

lead vocal, backing vocals, guide vocals

I have a large singing range. You can give me soprano, alto, or tenor parts. Or all of them and I’ll multitrack. I can sing lead, backup, or both.

  • Lowest note: E3 (D3 on a great day)
  • Chest voice through: E5 (F#5 on a great day)
  • Head/opera voice through: D6

My voice can take on a variety of timbres, attitudes, and styles… pop, rock, opera, Baroque, disco, prog goth metal, folk, Broadway, lullaby, dubstep, easy listening, classic rock, Celtic, concept albums, and more. I’m pretty awful at jazz and R&B.

Singers I’m often impersonating include Kate Bush, Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, Bonnie Tyler, Donna Summer, Irene Cara, Annie Lennox, Olivia Newton-John, Idina Menzel, Christy (who sang Ennio Morricone themes), Marcela Bovio, and Anneke van Giersbergen.

After my karaoke performances, bar patrons and cruise ship passengers who don’t understand what karaoke is often ask, “Were you just singing that or was that pre-recorded?” Others say, “I can’t believe they allow professional singers here!” (sorry) and “You sound better than Kate Bush.” (thank you)

One-Take Karaoke

Rules:

  • No editing, punch-ins, corrections, autotuning, melodyning, etc.
  • If I get something wrong or sing out of tune, it stays.
  • One take for the lead track.
  • Breaths left in.
  • Produce as fast as possible. Sure, my voice could be better produced, but the fun of these is to do everything in about 20 minutes.
  • Just get it done even if it’s imperfect.

Yes this could all be improved or perfected with multiple takes or comping. But this is how I sound live.
